From Test Data to Application Performance

Choose Silica Fume by Application, Not SiO₂ Alone

Silica fume is not defined by SiO₂ content alone. We evaluate particle-size distribution, water demand, loss on ignition, flowability, dispersion and batch consistency to connect powder specifications with practical processing and in-service performance.

Grade matching for refractory castables, UHPC, concrete and functional filler systems.

Batch documentation focused on the properties that affect mixing and production.

Sample support for laboratory trials, formulation adjustment and issue analysis.

Coordinated packaging, logistics, certificates and test reports for export orders.

Silica Fume Selection and Supply Support

Frequently Asked Questions

Tell us your application and we will recommend a suitable grade.

Are silica fume and microsilica the same material?

Yes. In most industrial markets, silica fume and microsilica are two names for the same ultrafine, predominantly amorphous silica collected during silicon or ferrosilicon production. They should not be confused with ground crystalline silica flour, which is a different material.

What does silica fume do in concrete and refractory castables?

Silica fume provides ultrafine particle filling and, in cementitious systems, pozzolanic reactivity. Depending on the formulation, it can improve particle packing, cohesion, strength, impermeability and durability. In refractory castables, grade selection also considers flow, water demand and high-temperature performance.

How do I choose a silica fume grade?

Start with the application and required standard, then compare SiO₂, loss on ignition, moisture, retained material on the specified sieve, water demand, bulk density and form. A laboratory trial is recommended because the best grade depends on the complete formulation and process.

What is the difference between densified and undensified silica fume?

Densified silica fume has a higher bulk density for more efficient transport and handling. Undensified silica fume has a lower bulk density and may disperse more readily in some systems. The right form depends on dosing equipment, mixing energy, packaging and application requirements.

Can MSILI provide samples and technical documents?

Samples and available technical or batch documents can be requested for grade evaluation. Tell us the application, target specification, test method and required quantity so we can confirm the appropriate sample and documentation.
